About the Game

London: Between Darkness & Light is more a piece of interactive fiction — perhaps even pseudo-fan-fiction — than it is a text-based dungeon crawl. The needs of the story outweigh the needs of dice-rolling mechanics. Indeed, while some facility for dice-rolling is supplied, most of the time the deciding factor as to who wins or loses a confrontation has more to do with what makes for the more interesting situation or outcome in the story.

Still, it ultimately is a game, and every game has rules and structure. This is where you can find out more about ours. Check out the sections below:

The Staff

Led by Mayhem, the admin staff consists of three dedicated writers, whose primary goal is to keep things interesting. Hence their names:

From a story point-of-view, that's what they sow. But, OOCly, they're all about keeping things on track.

The Rules

The first and biggest rule of the game is the Golden Rule:

Do unto others as you would have done unto you.

Once you get past that, though, there's a bunch of other minutiae that needs to be taken into account. Our policies page gives you the low-down.

The Style

Every game has its own personality, depending on who's telling the story and who's playing. No game is suitable for every player. It all depends on your style of play.

Because we want to make sure we have the right players for our game, we've decided to be completely upfront about the sort of player who's likely to enjoy this game and how we like to play.

The Story

We've drawn our world from a wide variety of sources, mixed them all together, and come up with our own take on it all. Consequently, we've got a deep well of storytelling material to draw from.

Just as it's sometimes hard to break into an ongoing tv series halfway through a season, we know it can sometimes be hard to figure out what's going on when you first log in to a new game. So, to make things a little easier, we've provided an overview of the story so far
